When it comes to sound quality, I want the VERY best. As far as upper-middle price headphones go, the Bose and Beats by Dr. Dre have been in strong competition for awhile now. Each of these base-bumpers are in the $300 dollar range and are selling off the rack with music junkies. I have heard both and I highly suggest the Bose. Why? Well....
Beats by Dr. Dre Headphones were initially directed towards the Hip Hop genre, with a naturally desired Base. They completed this checklist with flying colors, yet it only goes downhill from there. Quality-wise, they are not ahead of any other average priced sets. I am convinced that the slick design and Dr. Dre name backing it up is the ONLY reason they are selling so well. When I see people wearing them, the only thing that runs through my head is how they are wasting money. They cost $50 more than the higher quality Bose!
Obviously Bose has been in the game for a much longer time(since 1964 to be exact). They have numerous patents on sound technology and are continuing to spend hundreds of millions of dollars in research every year. Beats by Dr. Dre is not legally able to use many of the technologies which Bose is entitled and must settle for status quo quality. That, in my opinion is why they put so much into the design attempting to make up for lack of this aspect. The Bose headphones sound as if they are dividing the instruments out to be heard one at a time, its is incredible. Not to mention, they look so much more classy. Lastly, I have discovered, while flying in a plane, the headphones have the ability to decrease pressure in your earlobes. I have not had my ears pop since using them. Need I say more?
